Panel participants include

David Firstenberg, CEO, Canal Insurance - David will represent the Corporate Boardroom perspective. Mr. Firstenberg currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Canal Insurance Company, Canal Indemnity Company and the Wm. R. Timmons Agency, LLC. Prior to joining Canal in 2010, Mr. Firstenberg served as President, Commercial Lines for The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. Mr. Firstenberg's experience also includes executive positions at One Beacon Insurance Group, Zenith National, and Chubb.

D. Doug Dorman, Vice President of Human Resources, Greenville Hospital System - Doug will represent the perspective of strategic workforce planning in a large healthcare organization. The Greenville Hospital System offers an healthcare delivery system with approximately 1,100 beds and 11,000 employees, including 700 employed physicians. Prior to coming to GHS in 1995, Doug was Vice President of Human Resources for Horizon Hospital System in western Pennsylvania, where he helped facilitate the merger of Shenango Valley Medical Center and Greenville Regional Hospital. Doug holds an MBA from the University System of New Hampshire and a BA from Middlebury College in Vermont. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources. He is a Riley Institute Diversity Fellow and is past president of both the South Carolina and the Pennsylvania Healthcare Human Resources Associations. He is chair of the Greenville County Workforce Investment Board and serves on the Greenville County Regional Education Center Advisory Board.

Doug Duncan, Vice President of MAU Workforce Solutions - Doug will represent the contingency worker talent pool. Doug is Vice President of Management, Analysis and Utilization, Inc. (MAU), an Augusta based Human Resource firm. Doug holds a bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia Regents University in Augusta. He is certified as an Executive Marketing Scholar by Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. He was recently appointed State Vice Chariman of the Georgia Workforce Investment Board by the Governor Nathan Deal. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the Columbia County Development Authority.

Steve Burry, Employee Relations Project Manager at the Michelin Headquarters in Greenville, SC.  - Steve will represent the manufacturing industry segment. Steve is leading an initiative to attract and develop the skilled work force of the future. Previously Steve was the Site Personnel Manager for the Earthmover and Passenger Facilities, Michelin North America, Lexington, SC. Steve has been with Michelin 34 years, eight years in manufacturing management and 26 years in personnel positions. 

Panel moderator -

John Baker of Greenville Works - John is Executive Director of the Greenville Region Workforce Collaborative, a partnership of public and private funders that focuses on training and employment opportunities within defined industry clusters in Greenville County. The Collaborative's Transportation Manufacturing class began training in October 2011. The program provides pre-screening, intensive case management, paid work experience options, and placement opportunities. Prior to this role, Baker began a business calling program that resulted in the development of Greenville Works in 2009. Baker's career also includes roles in the engineering and construction industry with responsibilities for marketing, business development, quality and training. John is a 1980 graduate of the University of Georgia.

 These five upstate industry leaders will share their insights into the pressures and challenges of Strategic Workforce Planning to maintain competitive success!
