About Dr. Jones
Growing Our Own – How Greenville Technical College Plans for Tomorrow by Developing Talent Today
Dr. Jones and Ms. Jones will provide an overview of higher education institutions’ historical approaches to succession planning and will highlight the array of programs, services and professional activities that Greenville Technical College has successfully implemented to invest in its future by developing its current workforce.
Participants will gain practical information about talent development programs, services and professional activities that can be replicated within their organizations.
Dr. Matteel Jones joined Greenville Technical College as the Vice President for Student Services in February 2013, having served previously as the Vice President for Student Affairs at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort, South Carolina and has an extensive background as a student affairs practitioner serving in various roles.
A first-generation technical/community college graduate, Dr. Jones earned an Associate of Arts degree from Piedmont Technical College, a B.A. in Counseling and Human Services from Limestone College, a masters in Career and Technology Education from Clemson University, a graduate certificate in Higher Education Leadership from the University of South Carolina and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of South Carolina.
About Ms. Jones
Ms. Jones became director of Human Resources at Greenville Technical College, and was promoted to Associate Vice President of Human Resources in 2010. She is the first HR leader in the history of the college to serve as one of nine people on the President’s Cabinet, advising the administration on employee relations, personnel management, salary administration, legal compliance, and payroll issues.
At Greenville Tech, Ms. Jones is responsible for the administration and management of programs including classification, compensation, employment, benefits, HRIS, employee information, and performance management that impact nearly 1,500 employees on four campuses. Additionally, she oversees the Center for Professional Excellence, created in July, 2014 for the purpose of transforming the college’s culture to be highly inclusive, innovative, and collaborative in its approach to the professional development of its faculty, staff, and leaders.
